The Game That Never Ends

Yesterday went well, after the interview, my interviewers took me to their office and showed me around. This job will probably present some challenges I haven’t faced before, but I don’t think I would want it if it didn’t. I believe this owners are a little hesitant to hire me based on the fact they feel I am too young. Basically, they think I haven’t faced some common problems that they’ve come across. In truth I have, but it is difficult to convey that without sounding like a teenagers going “I know, I know, I know”.

Their concerns are that I won’t be able to manage those older than me, I’ll pick favorites, I’ll date the staff, I’ll party too much, I’ll get bored or “Island fever”. Not that the interviewers said that directly, but I heard what they meant. I’m afraid I was unsure how to address these concerns is a convincing fashion, and while I understand them, I wanted to be like “You don’t know me!”. Of course it didn’t help that any prolonged speech sent me into a fit of coughs. I KNOW I can do this job, I am just terrible at presenting myself in a confident manner. UGGH!!!!!

It is somewhat promising to know that they called a couple of my references. Now, it’s back to the waiting game…And time to continue job hunting.

Vague = Uninteresting...I know, I'll work on it

Since, being ill I have downloaded the maximum possible amount of books to my kindle, from my local library and read them all. I’ve gotten half way through season two of “Psych”, applied to far too few jobs, painted a little treasure chest I got for Christmas and styled my hair in some unusual fashions. I’ve also had six cans of pop in the last seven days, and I usually have about a can once a month. I hope to be better by this weekend, so that I can get back on track.

On, the other hand I was very productive today leading up to my interview tomorrow, I reviewed the company website, my resume, google mapped the location and decided what I’m going to wear. Now, I just have to iron it, and fill up the gas tank. It would also be great if my voice would return to proper working order. Wish me luck.

I’ll be sure to post my failure and success of the interview. I’m nervous, excited, and a little unsure of what to expect. If I get it, not only will I describe it in gushing detail while doing a victory dance, but I will follow up on my trials of my new job.

I realize much of what I say is vague, but I get asked every day, by almost every person I see and even those I don’t on my job hunt. I realize these aren’t frequenters of my blog, I don’t have that many. They ask, they ask even when I haven’t volunteered everything, I mention a job I find in passing, months ago and they ask me if I’ve heard anything. If I’m not already disappointed by the fact I haven’t heard back, I then become twice as disappointed telling them that. So until I have concrete details, dates, bosses, even a trail period, I don’t share the details. They’ll just ask tomorrow anyway.

In reality, I’ve only been out of school for little under two months; half the places I’ve applied haven’t even reviewed my resume yet. More, than half that have, have already discarded it. The rest have called or e-mailed, to screen out those unsuited. Getting a job is more than filling out an application and submitting a resume, I have to make it so that I’m the person at the top of their long list of applications repeatedly.

So that in the end, I am the only right choice for that position.

Accomplishing that is the only job I have right now, but I’m hoping not for long.

Next Step This Week

I’ve been remiss in my writing as of late due to my annual cold, which may not be just a cold. I will find out tomorrow.

I did however watch the Super Bowl yesterday, and I have a few favorite commercials. I liked Volkswagen’s “Dog Strikes Back”, because it lined up with a common and relatable New Year resolution for people in the audience. Also, I just found it really funny. Next, on my list of favorites is Budweisers “Dog Rescue”, with the dog named Weego, every time the dog is called he brought you a drink. This commercial made you aware of the product and the dog, combined with the announcement in the beginning that he was a rescue dog and the tag at the end, the point of the ad was made. Finally, M&M’s “Just My Shell”, the product was the main star, with a funny twist on the animated characters, introducing M&M Miss Brown.

If you want some laughs, check out the TaxACT commercial, you may not actually remember what it is for, but it has a good sense of humor.

On the job front, I have an interview, an in person one, for a job I really want, on Wednesday. Right now I’m so excited I am almost incoherent, which coupled with the fact I can barely talk is terrible. I have two days to regain my voice and talk up my strengths. Regardless, of the overall outcome I’m proud of myself for obtain repeated responses from a job I’m not only qualified but can see myself loving.

Importance Of Voicing Thoughts

This has probably been the least terrible I’ve felt while being sick. And the first time I have ever really lost my voice, which is saying something considering I’ve had strep throat. I’ve had some rather encouraging calls this past week and am excited for the outcome. The trick is getting through today’s important call without a voice. Wish me luck.

This has also made me realized how much of a voice I have through my blog, facebook and email. I’m going to keep my written voice as strong as I can. These next few days I’ll be sure to get in lots of practice as it appears to be my only option.

Patiently Passing Time

I am currently trudging my way through the screening processes for three jobs I am very interested in. One is catering related, one event management, and one for an event assistant, obviously they line up with the type of job I want now I just have to seal the deal. Let me just say I have my fingers crossed but I’m not quite ready to close my eyes to make wishes.

I feel somewhat successful to have made it this far, although similarly as before I heard back, I once again required to wait patiently for their response.

On an unrelated note, there are about four movies I really want to see. I suppose if I get a job I should pick one to see for celebration. One of them brings back childhood memories, based off the book “The Borrowers”, it’s called “The Secret World of Arrietty”. Although, I am also still fond of the original movie the “The Borrowers”, with Tom Felton and John Goodman.

Luck: Good And Bad

I’ve been excited about the few places I have heard back from about my applications. They both have asked for a little more information before proceeding. I do not know yet, if I have passed that level of inspection, as I have not heard back again. While I dislike the feeling of uncertainty, at this time I do not mind the lull, as I have been sick as of late. Nothing serious I don’t think just a cold probably, although I have a fever, and I cannot recall the last time I had a fever.

Hopefully, when the potential employers do respond to me I will be able to think clearly, and able to meet with them.
